Why Hand-Code Websites Instead of Using WordPress

While WordPress is a popular website platform, I've made the conscious decision to avoid it. Here's why:

  1. Security Concerns: WordPress does require regular updates and proper security measures to prevent vulnerabilities, especially with plugins. Hand-coded sites can be more secure if developed with best practices.
  2. Performance Overhead: WordPress, along with its plugins and page builders, can add bloat and slow down sites if not optimized properly. Hand-coded lean sites avoid this overhead.
  3. Code Control and Optimization: With hand-coding, I have full control over the HTML, CSS and JavaScript, understanding exactly how it's constructed. WordPress page builders can generate convoluted code that's harder to maintain.
  4. Simplicity and Flexibility: Without site builder layer like WordPress, the codebase remains simpler and more flexible to work with directly as a developer, avoiding potential plugin conflicts or unintuitive editing experiences.
  5. Update Management: No WordPress core or plugin updates means less maintenance and risk of breaking functionality with version updates over time.

While WordPress can be a decent solution for basic website needs, our clients demand and deserve premium performance, security and customization. That's why KL Web Design put in the hard work of hand-coding every site - to deliver best-in-class web experiences without compromise.
